Should your church have a website? Posted at 12/07/09 - 11:20 PM

The Internet is a powerful tool that churches use to expand their ministry, proclaim the gospel, advertise their church, and touch people.

A PUBLICITY TOOL

A web site is a publicity tool much like a yellow page or newspaper ad. More than 80% of the new people in your area will search the Internet to find a church. Although a web site will not suddenly make your church double in size it will bring new people into your church.

A web site has many advantages over a yellow page ad (although you should have this too). You can put so much more information on a web site and you can communicate the personality of your church.

A COMMUNICATIONS TOOL

A web site is a great tool for communicating with your church members. You can keep a calendar of upcoming events and activities on your site. You can keep sermon outlines there for your members to review. You can post prayer requests (be careful with this one some may not want too much information available to the public).

AN EXTENDED MINISTRY TOOL

A web site reaches the entire world, not just your local community. Offering surfers a place to ask questions can be rewarding. Posting articles on various spiritual subjects can be a big help to others. Online Bible studies can help people grow in their faith.

CONCLUSION

The things that can be done with a church web site are limited only by your imagination. Don't expect a web site to work miracles in your church but do use it as a tool to supplement other tools and ministries.
